UK To Welcome Russian National Ballet This December

The Russian National Ballet will embark on an exclusive four venue tour this December performing the 3 most classic ballets of all time.

The Russian National Ballet was the first independent company founded in Moscow during the transitional period of Perestroika in the late 1980s. With this, many of the great dancers and choreographers of the Soviet Union’s ballet institutions were exercising their new-found creative freedom by starting new, vibrant companies dedicated not only to the timeless tradition of classical Russian Ballet but to invigorate this tradition as the Russians began to accept new developments in the dance from around the world. Today the Russian National Ballet is its own institution with over 50 dancers of singular instruction and vast experience, many of whom have been with the company since its inception.

The legendary Bolshoi principal dancer, Sergei Radchenko, is the founder and artistic director of the Company. Under Mr Radchenko, The Russian National Ballet, as its name implies, has focused on upholding the grand national tradition of the major Russian ballet works and has developed new talents throughout Russia, with a repertory of virtually all of the great full works including The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker.

The Sleeping Beauty

Every child’s favourite fairy tale, this is the classic story of love and innocence, mystery and magic set to Tchaikovsky’s sublime score. Stunning choreography, sumptuous costumes and wonderful sets form the fantasy world in which the Lilac Fairy struggles against the evil Carabosse.

Swan Lake

The greatest romantic ballet of all time is brought to life by Tchaikovsky’s haunting and unforgettable score. From the impressive splendour of the Palace ballroom to the moon-lit lake where swans glide in perfect formation, this compelling tale of tragic romance has it all; exquisite ensemble pieces, memorable pas de deux and breath-taking solos. The contrast of Odile, the temptress in black tulle who seduces the Prince by spinning with captivating precision, to the spellbinding purity of the swan queen, Odette, as she flutters with emotional intensity, the dual role of Odette/Odile is one of ballet’s most remarkable technical challenges.

The Nutcracker

This most famous of fantasy ballets for all the family begins as night falls on Christmas Eve. While snowflakes fall outside, the warm glow of the open fire sends flickering shadows across the boughs of the Christmas tree and all the presents beneath. When midnight strikes we are swept away to a fairy-tale world where nothing is quite as it seems; toy dolls spring to life, the Mouse King and his army battle with the Nutcracker Prince and we travel through the Land of Snow to an enchanted place where the magic really begins…
