High above Clouds

High above Clouds

In his new film "I’m So Excited" with Penelope Cruz and Antonio Banderas starring, the star director Pedro Almodóvar takes us high above clouds. However, not only actors shine in the film.

"Dear passengers, due to a minor technical problem, we will make an emergency landing shortly, if, of course, we make it to the next airport. There is no reason to worry, but a prayer certainly could not hurt." This announcement makes the passengers of the “Peninsula” 2549 airbus not as emotional as expected. And this is not only because three flight attendants offer plenty of alcohol. In his new film "I’m So Excited", the Spanish iconic director Pedro Almodóvar sends a “motley” crowd of people into the clouds. Each of them has his own problems, as among them there is a nationally known porn-star and an entrepreneur who is trying to escape from a professional killer, a psychic who is dreaming to finally lose her virginity, and three gay flight attendants who will entertain their passengers in distress. There is no wonder, then, that the film is full of humour and evokes such positive emotions. In addition, the high-class starring of Penelope Cruz and Antonio Banderas guarantees the film an absolute star cast.

Red curtains as on the theater stage

In his film, director Almodóvar does not only enlighten the shrill characters’ personalities in the scenes. Paying his attention to every detail, the director creates a real work of art. Thus, the design of interior decorations plays a major role. The pleated red curtains that separate the control cabin from the business class and the economy class are deliberately staged as theater curtains. Thus, they form a stage for the protagonists and simultaneously attract everyone's attention. The colours of the seat covers are precisely chosen. Since interiors of airplanes mostly have neutral and muted colours, the fabrics of simple blue, brown and gray colours are used in the movie. And, of course, Almodóvar’s signature element could not be missing: red details are present in all of his films, as for this movie, the seat covers are accented with his favourite colour.

Seat covers play an important role

It is the upholstery that plays an increasingly important role in the interior design of airplanes. Today they are mainly a part of the corporate design. The blue-and-gray design is being replaced slowly. Absolutely different requirements should be met by textile fabrics in real life yet: they shouldn’t be inflammable and should make as minimum smoke as possible if ignition occurs. Since the weight of an airplane plays a big role in fuel consumption, lightweight materials are needed. And convenience can not be missed. The evidence that these criteria can still be met all together is shown in various modern textile collections for airplanes.

The interiors decorated with taste, jazzy accents, adherence to realism and, not least of all, the refreshing story make Pedro Almodóvar’s "I’m So Excited" a successful work of art. With his eye for details, the Spanish director has proved that even choosing the right fabric covers plays an important role. Who would not like to take such plane at least once?
